Carotid Duplex Ultrasound

An ultrasound of the body’s two carotid arteries, which are located on each side of the neck and carry blood from the heart to the brain, provides detailed pictures of these blood vessels and information about the blood flowing through them.

Carotid duplex imaging is best non-invasive screening test for carotid artery stenosis.

Carotid doppler ultrasound is indicated when medical conditions that increase the risk of stroke, including:

  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • High cholesterol
  • Family history of stroke or heart disease
  • Recent transient ischemic attack (TIA) or stroke
  • Abnormal sound in carotid arteries (bruit), detected by your doctor using a stethoscope
  • Coronary artery disease

Echocardiography

An echocardiogram, is non-invasive ultrasound exam of the heart. Echocardiography is used to diagnose cardiovascular diseases.

  • It determine whether any chest pain is related to heart disease.
  • It assesses the size and shape of the heart,
  • It evaluates pumping capacity and the location and extent of any damage to its tissues.
  • It assesses diseases of the heart valves
  • Assess the heart wall motion to detect the presence of coronary artery disease,
  • It detects hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, in which the walls of the heart thickened.
